Privacy Policy

This is a plain-language explanation of how Hammer handles your data, from Dark Rock Studios, the makers of Hammer. The short version: Hammer is offline-first, your writing lives on your own devices, and we don't collect anything about you automatically. The longer version is below.
1. Your writing stays on your devices
Everything you create in Hammer — your stories, notes, encyclopedia entries, and settings — is saved as ordinary files on your own device. We can't see any of it. It isn't sent to us or to anyone else, and you don't need an account to use the app.
2. We don't track you
No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no ads. We don't collect information about how you use the app, and we're not interested in it. The only thing the app reaches out to the internet for on its own is to check whether a newer version is available.
3. Sync is optional
Hammer can sync your work between your devices, but only if you turn it on — it's off by default. When you do, you connect the app to a sync server, and the content you choose to sync, along with your account details, is sent to that server so your devices can stay in step. How that server handles your data is up to whoever operates it; if it's a server someone else runs, their privacy policy applies, not this one.
4. Bug reports are yours to send
If something breaks and you want to report it, the app can gather recent logs to help us understand what went wrong. You decide whether to send them, and you can see what's included first. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to send it.
5. Security
For anything that does leave your device through a feature you turned on, we do our best to protect it. That said, no method of sending data over the internet is ever completely secure, and we won't pretend otherwise.
6. Links to other places
Hammer may occasionally link to other websites. Those aren't ours, and we can't speak for how they handle your data. If you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies, not this one.
7. Children
We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has shared personal information through Hammer, get in touch and we'll address it. You also need to be at least 16 to consent to the processing of your personal information yourself (in some countries a parent or guardian can do so on your behalf).
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
