editor: Put more syntax walking features on the background (#48450)
Currently we always compute breadcrumbs and sticky headers on every
editor paint which is not cheap to do especially in bigger files, moving
this off to be computed on event handling where they change and then
caching them can save serveral milliseconds per render in bigger files.

This also puts matching brackets refreshing and document highlights on a
background task, as this tends to block the main task for prolonged time
as well.

Revert "Allow always_allow patterns for Nushell, Elvish, and Rc shells" (#48050)

Allow always_allow patterns for Nushell, Elvish, and Rc shells (#47908)
## Summary

This PR extends the `always_allow` tool permission patterns to work with
Nushell, Elvish, and Rc shells. Previously, these shells were
incorrectly excluded because they don't use `&&`/`||` operators for
command chaining. However, brush-parser can safely parse their command
syntax since they all use `;` for sequential execution.

## Changes

- Add `ShellKind::Nushell`, `ShellKind::Elvish`, and `ShellKind::Rc` to
`supports_posix_chaining()`
- Split `ShellKind::Unknown` into `ShellKind::UnknownWindows` and
`ShellKind::UnknownUnix` to preserve platform-specific fallback behavior
while still denying `always_allow` patterns for unrecognized shells
- Add comprehensive tests for the new shell support
- Clarify documentation about shell compatibility

## Shell Notes

- **Nushell**: Uses `;` for sequential execution. The `and`/`or`
keywords are boolean operators on values, not command chaining.
- **Elvish**: Uses `;` to separate pipelines. Does not have `&&` or `||`
operators. Its `and`/`or` are special commands operating on values.
- **Rc (Plan 9)**: Uses `;` for sequential execution and `|` for piping.
Does not have `&&`/`||` operators.

## Security

Unknown shells still return `false` from `supports_posix_chaining()`, so
`always_allow` patterns are denied for safety when we can't verify the
shell's syntax.

(No release notes because granular tool permissions are still
feature-flagged.)

Thanks @injust for pointing this out. It seems a few other action docs

actual purpose. This PR fixes those, though I may not have covered all
of them.

Add vim/emacs modeline support (#44210)
Many editors such as vim and emacs support "modelines", a comment at the
beginning of the file that allows the file type to be explicitly
specified along with per-file specific settings

- The amount of configurations, style and settings mapping cannot be
handled in one go, so this opens up a lot of potential improvements.
- I left out the possiblity to have "zed" specific modelines for now,
but this could be potentially interesting.
- Mapping the mode or filetype to zed language names isn't obvious
either. We may want to make it configurable.

This is my first contribution to zed, be kind. I struggled a bit to find
the right place to add those settings. I use a similar approach as done
with editorconfig (merge_with_editorconfig). There might be better ways.

Closes #4762

Release Notes:

- Add basic emacs/vim modeline support.

Supersedes #41899, changes:
- limit reading to the first and last 1kb
- add documentation
- more variables handled
- add Arc around ModelineSettings to avoid extra cloning
- changed the way mode -> language mapping is done, thanks to
`modeline_aliases` language config
- drop vim ex: support
- made "Local Variables:" handling a separate commit, so we can drop it
easily
- various code style improvements

debugger: Fix crash when dragging pane items to split view (#46806)
## Summary

Fixes crash when dragging debugger panel items
(terminal/console/variables/frames) to another pane as split view.

  **Root causes:**
1. Double borrow panic - `pane_group.split()` was called synchronously
inside a `Context<Pane>` update, causing "cannot update Pane while it is
already being updated"
2. `unwrap()` calls that panic when items are in transition during drag
operations
3. `debug_assert!` in `pane_at_pixel_position` fails when `members` and
`bounding_boxes` are temporarily out of sync after deferred split

  **Fixes:**
- Defer entire split+move operation via `cx.spawn_in()` to avoid double
borrow
- Replace `unwrap()` with graceful early returns in `activate_item` and
`run_in_terminal`
- Handle `members.len() != bounding_boxes.len()` gracefully in
`pane_at_pixel_position`

Implement Vim's tag stack (#46002)
Happy New Years! This PR is a second take at
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/38127 (cc @ConradIrwin)

This PR is significantly less complicated than the last attempt: while
we still keep our data on the `NavigationHistory` object, we no longer
tightly integrate it with the existing back/forward "browser history."
Instead, we keep our own stack of `(origin, target)` pairs (in a struct
to make it easy to extend with e.g., tag names in the future).

The PR is split into two separable commits. Most of the implementation
is in the second commit, which:
- Defines the stack data structure
- Implements `pane::GoToOlderTag` and `pane::GoToNewerTag` in terms of
the stack
- Hooks into `navigate_to_hover_links` to push tag stack entries

This last bit is the most fiddly. The core challenge is that we need to
keep track of the `origin` location and calculate the `target` location
across three codepaths that might involve creating a new editor and/or
splitting the pane. One thing in particular I found difficult was that
an editor's `nav_history` (an `ItemNavHistory`) seems to be populated
asynchronously. Instead of relying on it, I decided in this code to make
my own `ItemNavHistory`. I briefly tried to refactor the code in
question, but it seemed like it would significantly increase the scope
of the change.

I prefer this all-in-one tracking centered around
`navigate_to_hover_links ` to the `start/finish` approach taken in
b69a2ea200
because I find it easier to convince myself that the right data is being
populated at the right times. Of course, let me know if you think
there's a better solution.

Fix stale pending keybinding indicators on focus change (#44678)
Closes #ISSUE

Problem:

- The status bar’s pending keystroke indicator (shown next to --NORMAL--
in Vim mode) didn’t clear when focus moved to another context, e.g.
hitting g in the editor then clicking the Git panel. The keymap state
correctly canceled the prefix, but observers that render the indicator
never received a “pending input changed” notification, so the UI kept
showing stale prefixes until a new keystroke occurred.

Fix:

- The change introduces a `pending_input_changed_queued` flag and a new
helper `notify_pending_input_if_needed` which will flushes the queued
notification as soon as we have an App context. The
`pending_input_changed` now resets the flag after notifying subscribers.

immediately when focus moves to another panel or UI context.

ui: Remove support for unnecessary Switch colors (#44388)
This PR removes the default, error, warning, and success color variants
from the `SwitchColor` enum. In the most YAGNI spirit, I think we'll
probably never want to use these colors for the switch, so there's no
reason to support them. And if we ever want to do it, we can re-add
them.

I also took the opportunity to change the default color to be "accent",
which is _already_ what we use for all instances of this component, so
there's no need to have to define it every time. This effectively makes
the enum support only "accent" and "custom", which I think is okay for
now if we ever need an escape hatch before committing to supporting new
values.

Apply show_completions_on_input: false to word & snippet completions (#44021)
Closes #43408

Previously, we checked the setting inside `is_completion_trigger()`,

or globally for all languages, to configure whether Zed should color the
brackets for a particular language.

Disabled for all languages by default.

2. Any given language can opt-out a certain bracket pair by amending the
brackets.scm like `("\"" @open "\"" @close) ` -> `(("\"" @open "\""
@close) (#set! rainbow.exclude))`

3. Brackets are using colors from theme accents, which can be overridden
as

```jsonc
"theme_overrides": {
  "One Dark": {
    "accents": ["#ff69b4", "#7fff00", "#ff1493", "#00ffff", "#ff8c00", "#9400d3"]
  }
},
```

Release Notes:

- Added bracket colorization (rainbow brackets) support. Use
`colorize_brackets` language setting to enable.

debugger: Allow users to include PickProcessId in debug tasks and resolve Pid (#42913)
Closes #33286

This PR adds support for Zed's `$ZED_PICK_PID` command in debug
configurations, which allows users to select a process to attach to at
debug time. When this variable is present in a debug configuration, Zed
automatically opens a process picker modal.

Follow up for this will be integrating this variable in the task system
instead of just the debug configuration system.

Release Notes:

- Added `$ZED_PICK_PID` variable for debug configurations, allowing
users to select which process to attach the debugger to at runtime

svg_preview: Remove unnecessary dependency on editor (#43147)
Editor is a choke point in our compilation graph while also being a very
common crate that is being edited. So reducing things that depend on it
will generally improve compilation times for us.

ui: Remove the ToggleButton component (#43115)
This PR removes the old `ToggleButton` component, replacing it with the
newer `ToggleButtonGroup` component in the couple of places that used to
use it. Ended up also adding a few more methods to the newer toggle
button group so the UI for the extensions page and the debugger main
picker didn't get visually impacted much. Then, as I was already in the
extensions page, decided to bake in some reasonably small UI
improvements to it as well.

multi_buffer: Typed MultiBufferOffset (#42707)
This PR introduces a new `MultiBufferOffset` new type wrapping size. The
goal of this is to make it clear at the type level when we are
interacting with offsets of a multi buffer versus offsets of a language
/ text buffer. This improves readability of things quite a bit by making
it clear what kind of offsets one is working with while also reducing
accidental bugs by using the wrong kin of offset for the wrong API.

This PR also uncovered two minor bugs due to that.

Does not yet introduce the MultiBufferPoint equivalent, that is for a
follow up PR.
