## Summary
When using a uv (or Poetry/PDM) workspace with multiple subprojects,
Python LSP servers (Pyright, Ruff, ty, etc.) are initialized with the
subproject directory as their workspace folder instead of the workspace
root. This happens because `PyprojectTomlManifestProvider::search()`
returns the first (innermost)
`pyproject.toml` found walking up the directory tree.
For example, in a uv workspace like:
main-project/
├── pyproject.toml # workspace root with [tool.uv.workspace]
├── uv.lock
├── packages/
│ └── project-api/
│ └── pyproject.toml # subpackage
└── projects/
└── project-a/
└── pyproject.toml # subpackage
Opening a file in `packages/project-api/` would register
`packages/project-api/` as the LSP workspace folder instead of
`main-project/`.
## Approach
The fix uses lockfile existence as a heuristic to detect workspace
roots. The updated `search()` method walks all ancestors (similar to
`CargoManifestProvider`) and:
- Tracks the **innermost** `pyproject.toml` as a fallback
- Tracks the **outermost** `pyproject.toml` that has a sibling lockfile
(`uv.lock`, `poetry.lock`, `pdm.lock`, or `Pipfile.lock`)
- Returns the outermost workspace root if found, otherwise falls back to
the innermost
This works within the existing `ManifestDelegate` interface (existence
checks only, no file content reading).

This extracts a `language_core` crate from the existing `language`
crate, and creates a `grammars` data crate. The goal is to separate
tree-sitter grammar infrastructure, language configuration, and LSP
adapter types from the heavier buffer/editor integration layer in
`language`.
## Motivation
The `language` crate pulls in `text`, `theme`, `settings`, `rpc`,
`task`, `fs`, `clock`, `sum_tree`, and `fuzzy` — all of which are needed
for buffer integration (`Buffer`, `SyntaxMap`, `Outline`,
`DiagnosticSet`) but not for grammar parsing or language configuration.
Extracting the core types lets downstream consumers depend on
`language_core` without pulling in the full integration stack.

Many editors such as vim and emacs support "modelines", a comment at the
beginning of the file that allows the file type to be explicitly
specified along with per-file specific settings
- The amount of configurations, style and settings mapping cannot be
handled in one go, so this opens up a lot of potential improvements.
- I left out the possiblity to have "zed" specific modelines for now,
but this could be potentially interesting.
- Mapping the mode or filetype to zed language names isn't obvious
either. We may want to make it configurable.
This is my first contribution to zed, be kind. I struggled a bit to find
the right place to add those settings. I use a similar approach as done
with editorconfig (merge_with_editorconfig). There might be better ways.

## Context
Zed's semantic token highlighting does not cover all token types
returned by language servers, so the highlighting looks fairly primitive
compared with tree-sitter highlighting, especially for Python language
servers. This PR adds some global and Python-specific rules for better
highlighting.
I need to admit that the built-in Python language servers currently have
weak semantic highlighting implementations. Pylance, the closed-source
Python language server from Microsoft, provides the best highlighting
for now, but I think ty will do better, even though it still has a long
way to go.

Run `pylsp --version` via `delegate.try_exec()` in both branches of
`PyLspAdapter::check_if_user_installed` before returning the binary. If
execution fails (broken shebang, missing interpreter, etc.), log a
warning and return None so the system falls through gracefully instead
of surfacing an error dialog.
This matches the existing validation pattern used by TyLspAdapter and
RuffLspAdapter in their `fetch_server_binary` implementations.
No idea if this closes an issue but it sure was annoying on a system
where I deleted the pylsp environment I had. It surprised me too since I
had pylsp disabled in settings.

In the conda activation script building procedure, Zed currently
performs a file check for the conda executable on the client side. When
in remote development, this check always fails because the file exists
on the remote host, not the local machine. Since `pet` already handles
existence checks, removing this redundant check allows the activation to
proceed. It is also better to let any potential issues (like
permissions) show up in the terminal rather than silently skipping the
activation.
This addresses the root cause for remote development, which is different
from the approach in #50715 that focuses on shell hooks.

This PR detects completion items ending with `=` (which typically
represent keyword arguments in function calls provided by
`Pyright`/`BasedPyright`/`pylsp`) and assigns them the highest sorting
priority.
This ensures that when a user is filling out function arguments, the
named parameters appear at the top of the list, rather than being buried
mixed with other symbols.

* on macOS, @cole-miller and I noticed that since roughly Oct 2025, due
to some changes to latest macOS Tahoe, for any spawned child process we
needed to reset Mach exception ports
(https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/36754 +
6e8f2d2ebe)
* the changes in that PR achieve that via `pre_exec` hook on
`std::process::Command` which then abandons `posix_spawn` syscall for
`fork` + `execve` dance on macOS (we tracked it down in Rust's std
implementation)
* as it turns out, `fork` + `execve` is pretty expensive on macOS
(apparently way more so than on other OSes like Linux) and `fork` takes
a process-wide lock on the allocator which is bad
* however, since we wanna reset exception ports on the child, the only
official way supported by Rust's std is to use `pre_exec` hook
* posix_spawn on macOS exposes this tho via a macOS specific extension
to that syscall `posix_spawnattr_setexceptionports_np` but there is no
way to use that via any standard interfaces in `std::process::Command`
* thus, it seemed like a good idea to instead create our own custom
Command wrapper that on non-macOS hosts is a zero-cost wrapper of
`smol::process::Command`, while on macOS we reimplement the minimum to
achieve `smol::process::Command` with `posix_spawn` under-the-hood
Notably, this changeset improves git-blame in very large repos
significantly.

Some language servers include local symbols (e.g., local variables,
parameters) in workspace symbol results. Without the `containerName`
information, these symbols lack context information, making it difficult
to distinguish them from top-level definitions and hindering efficient
symbol lookup.
This change exposes the `container_name` field from LSP
[`SymbolInformation`](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#symbolInformation)
to the extension API, allowing language server extensions to access
`symbol.container_name` in `label_for_symbol` and provide meaningful
context when rendering symbol labels.
Note: The `container_name `field is added to all extension API versions
because they seem to share the same underlying Rust types via wasmtime
bindgen. The field is optional, so existing extensions would remain
compatible as far as I understand.

## Summary
This PR extends the `always_allow` tool permission patterns to work with
Nushell, Elvish, and Rc shells. Previously, these shells were
incorrectly excluded because they don't use `&&`/`||` operators for
command chaining. However, brush-parser can safely parse their command
syntax since they all use `;` for sequential execution.
## Changes
- Add `ShellKind::Nushell`, `ShellKind::Elvish`, and `ShellKind::Rc` to
`supports_posix_chaining()`
- Split `ShellKind::Unknown` into `ShellKind::UnknownWindows` and
`ShellKind::UnknownUnix` to preserve platform-specific fallback behavior
while still denying `always_allow` patterns for unrecognized shells
- Add comprehensive tests for the new shell support
- Clarify documentation about shell compatibility
## Shell Notes
- **Nushell**: Uses `;` for sequential execution. The `and`/`or`
keywords are boolean operators on values, not command chaining.
- **Elvish**: Uses `;` to separate pipelines. Does not have `&&` or `||`
operators. Its `and`/`or` are special commands operating on values.
- **Rc (Plan 9)**: Uses `;` for sequential execution and `|` for piping.
Does not have `&&`/`||` operators.
## Security
Unknown shells still return `false` from `supports_posix_chaining()`, so
`always_allow` patterns are denied for safety when we can't verify the
shell's syntax.

The root cause of this issue is related to how `Poetry` (and the
upstream `pet-poetry` library) handles path hashing. While perhaps it's
an upstream behavior, we can easily fix it on the Zed side.
The related code are
7ce845210d/crates/languages/src/python.rs (L1181-L1211)
In my debugging, I found that `worktree_root` takes the form
`/home/user/project`, but `config.workspace_directories` often ends up
as `/home/user/project/`(with a trailing slash). Normally this wouldn't
be an issue, but `Poetry` generates environment names based on the hash
of the absolute path. Since the hashes for `/home/user/project` and
`/home/user/project/` are different, `pet-poetry` fails to find the
environment.
The fix is straightforward: we just need to ensure the trailing `/` is
removed so the hashes match.

This aligns ty's behavior with ruff by checking for binaries in the
following order:
1. venv (from the Python toolchain's bin directory)
2. PATH
3. Zed-installed

Although `poetry` may store virtual environments in a global cache
directory (unlike the standard project-local `.venv`), the internal
directory structure of these environments remains consistent with
standard `venv` or `uv` environments.
Since our existing activation logic for `venv` environments relies on
relative paths within the environment root, it is naturally compatible
with `poetry` environments. Once the toolchain locates the environment's
root directory, the activation scripts can be applied without further
modification.
Testing:
- Verified on Windows: Confirmed working across `PowerShell`, `Pwsh`,
and `Cmd` for global poetry environments.
- Observation: When using an in-project `.venv` directory, the toolchain
may categorize the environment as `venv`-managed instead of
`poetry`-managed. While this behavior relates to the toolchain's
discovery logic, the activation itself remains fully functional as the
underlying structure is compatible.

Summary
This PR fixes an issue where Python virtual environments (`venv`, `uv`,
etc.) were not automatically activated when opening a terminal using
PowerShell 7.
Details
`ShellKind` distinguishes between the legacy Windows PowerShell
(`ShellKind::PowerShell`) and the newer PowerShell 7
(`ShellKind::Pwsh`). Previously, the logic in
`resolve_venv_activation_scripts` only checked for
`ShellKind::PowerShell`, causing `activate.ps1` resolution to fail for
`Pwsh` users.
This change adds `ShellKind::Pwsh` to the resolution list, mapping it to
`activate.ps1` just like the legacy PowerShell.

Currently, the Python toolchain can identify `uv` and `uv-workspace`
environments (showing the correct labels in the UI), but it fails to
activate them when opening a new terminal. This is because the
activation script resolution and command generation logic were missing
for these environment kinds.
This PR adds `uv` and `uv-workspace` to the standard virtual environment
activation flow. Since `uv` creates environments with a standard `venv`
structure, we can reuse the existing `resolve_venv_activation_scripts`
logic to find and execute the appropriate `activate` scripts for
different shells.

This makes this take the LSP adapter delegate instead of the binary
itself.
Despite us passing `LanguageServerBinaryOptions` with `allow_download:
false`, extensions would still try to download the binary because it was

to download all langauge servers provided by extensions when opening a
settings file and/or requesting the JSON schema for that.
This PR fixes this by passing the LSP adapter delegate instead, so the
few language servers which actually want to have the binary for
resolving the initialization options can decide on this by themselves.
With that, we no longer download all language servers for the schema
request

## Open Questions(Would be nice to get some advice here)
- Binary Fetching:
- I'm pretty sure the binary fetching is suboptimal. The main problem
here was getting access to the delegate but i figured that out
eventually in a way that i _hope_ should be fine.
- The toolchain and binary options can differ from what the user has
configured potentially leading to mismatches in the autocomplete values
returned(these are probably rarely changed though). I could not really
find a way to fetch these in this context so the provided ones are for
now just `default` values.
- For the trait API it is just provided a binary, since i wanted to use
the potentially cached binary from the CachedLspAdapter. Is that fine
our should the arguments be passed to the LspAdapter such that it can
potentially download the LSP?
- As for those LSPs with JSON schema files in their repositories i can
add the files to zed manually e.g. in
languages/language/initialization_options_schema.json, which could cause
mismatches with the actual binary. Is there a preferred approach for Zed
here also with regards to updating them?

This PR is rather a nice to have change than anything critical, so
review priority should remain low.
Switch to using `semver::Version` for representing node binary and npm
package versions. This is in an effort to root out implicit behavior and
improve type safety when interacting with the `node_runtime` crate by
catching invalid versions where they appear. Currently Zed may
implicitly assume the current version is correct, or always install the
newest version when a invalid version is passed. `semver::Version` also
doesn't require the heap, which is probably more of a fun fact than
anything useful.
`npm_install_packages` still takes versions as a `&str`, because
`latest` can be used to fetch the latest version on npm. This could
likely be made into an enum as well, but would make the PR even larger.
I tested changes with some node based language servers and external
agents, which all worked fine. It would be nice to have some e2e tests
for node. To be safe I'd put it on nightly after a Wednesday release.

`npx`, and any `npm install`-ed programs, exist as batch
scripts/PowerShell scripts on the PATH. We have to use a shell to launch
these programs.

Implements a specialized constructor `LanguageName::new_static` for
`&'static str` which reduces allocations.
`LanguageName::new` always backs the underlying `SharedString` with an
owned `Arc<str>` even when a `&'static str` is passed. This makes us
allocate each time we create a new `LanguageName` no matter what.
Creating a specialized constructor for `&'static str` allows us to
essentially construct them for free.
Additional change:
Encourages using explicit constructors to avoid needless allocations.
Currently there were no instances of this trait being called where the
lifetime was not `'static` saving another 48 locations of allocation.

Gist is we only need to block the foreground thread for reparsing if
immediate language changes are useful to the user. That is usually only
the case when they edit the buffer

This PR makes Conda activation configurable and transparent by adding a
`terminal.detect_venv.on.conda_manager` setting (`"auto" | "conda" |
"mamba" | "micromamba"`, default `"auto"`), updating Python environment
activation to honor this preference (or the detected manager executable)
and fall back to `conda` when necessary.
The preference is passed via `ZED_CONDA_MANAGER` from the terminal
settings, and the activation command is built accordingly (with proper
quoting for paths). Changes span
`zed/crates/terminal/src/terminal_settings.rs` (new `CondaManager` and
setting), `zed/crates/project/src/terminals.rs` (inject env var),
`zed/crates/languages/src/python.rs` (activation logic), and
`zed/assets/settings/default.json` (document the setting). Default
behavior remains unchanged for most users while enabling explicit
selection of `mamba` or `micromamba`.
