While building Zed with nightly rustc I've noticed it doesn't compile
because of good old pathfinder_simd. It also emits a bunch of warnings
about use of f64 literals where f32 is expected, so I've fixed them - it
should make future upgrades more straightforward.

# Objective

In PR #61397, the channel icons for public and private channels were
updated, but the tab icon for channel notes was not covered, causing the
tab icon to mismatch the channel icons shown in the collab panel, as
shown below:
<img width="850" height="185" alt="before"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/232a798c-122e-4ce1-9735-900fde851736"
/>

## Solution

Update the tab icon for channel notes to match the already-updated
channel icons in the collab panel (public channels use `#`, private
channels use a lock).

## Testing

Built and tested locally, with before/after comparison attached below.

collab_ui: Open contact finder with empty query (#61363)
I ran into this while conducting some tests. If you search for a channel
name in the Collab Panel and then try to “Add a Contact,” it seeds the
query with your search term from the current contents of that channel
search editor.

Opted to just drop that method altogether as it’s not being used
anywhere else.

Don't cancel renames or dismiss Go to Line when the window is deactivated (#61852)
Closes #39286

## Problem

Switching the keyboard layout on Wayland (e.g. GNOME's Super+Space)
makes the compositor briefly grab the keyboard, which deactivates the
Zed window. GPUI reports window deactivation as a blur of the focused
element (`WindowFocusEvent` is emitted with an empty
`current_focus_path`), so controls that dismiss or cancel on blur
treated it as the user abandoning them. The same happens when switching
to another app window. As discussed in #39286 with @MrSubidubi, the
desired behavior is to keep these controls open and focused across
window deactivation.

## Fix

Guard the blur-driven cancel/dismiss handlers with
`window.is_window_active()`, following the pattern established for
pickers in #41320:

- Project panel: in-progress rename / new file / new directory inputs
are no longer cancelled when the window is deactivated
- Collab panel: in-progress channel rename is no longer cancelled
- Go to Line: the dialog is no longer dismissed

In-window focus changes (clicking elsewhere, Escape) keep the existing
commit/cancel semantics. The terminal tab rename needed no change: it
re-checks `FocusHandle::is_focused`, which reads `window.focus` and that
survives deactivation. Command palette, file finder, and outline were
already fixed by #41320.

Added a regression test (`test_rename_survives_window_deactivation`)
that starts a rename, deactivates the window via the test platform, and
asserts the edit state survives.

Two milder siblings were left unchanged to keep this PR focused,
flagging them for a maintainer decision: the notebook markdown cell
exits edit mode on blur (`crates/repl/src/notebook/cell.rs`), and the
diagnostics view prunes diagnosticless buffers on blur
(`crates/diagnostics/src/diagnostics.rs`).

Longer term it may be worth carrying the blur cause in the event itself
(e.g. a `FocusMoved` vs `WindowDeactivated` reason on `FocusOutEvent`
and `EditorEvent::Blurred`), so each handler has to state which causes
it handles instead of relying on an opt-in guard; happy to file a
separate issue for that.

## After

## Suggested .rules additions

> Handlers that cancel or dismiss UI on blur (`EditorEvent::Blurred`,
`on_blur`, `on_focus_out`) must check `window.is_window_active()` first:
GPUI reports window deactivation (app switch, layout switcher grabbing
the keyboard) as a blur of the focused element, and dismissing there
loses user input.

Release Notes:

- Fixed in-progress file renames, channel renames, and the Go to Line
dialog being cancelled when the window is deactivated, e.g. by a
keyboard layout switch on Wayland or by switching to another application
([#39286](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/39286)).

Fix zoomed panels closing when focus moves within the panel (#59439)
Closes FR-139

Most focus-lost issues that close the agent panel in Zen mode stem from
panels returning a transient child editor's focus handle from
`Focusable::focus_handle`. The Zen-mode check closes the zoomed panel
when the focused element is not a descendant of the panel's focus
handle, so any focus movement inside the panel that landed outside that
child editor looked like the panel losing focus.

This PR separates the two roles that handle was serving:

- `Focusable::focus_handle` now always returns a stable handle tracked
at the panel's root element, used for containment checks (Zen-mode
auto-close, `toggle_panel_focus`, dock focus subscriptions).
- The new `Panel::activation_focus_handle` returns what should receive
focus when the panel is activated (e.g. a filter/commit/message editor)
and must be a focus-tree descendant of the root handle. All "focus the
panel" callsites in workspace/dock now use it.

Migrated panels: `AgentPanel` (including thread views and the toolbar
title editor), `CollabPanel`, `GitPanel`, `OutlinePanel`, and
`TerminalPanel` (previously delegated to the active pane, so focus in a
non-active pane dropped containment). `CollabPanel` activation falls
back to the panel root when signed out or collaboration is disabled,
since the filter editor isn't rendered in those states. Also fixes
duplicate element ids for tool calls with multiple content blocks.

Tests: a regression test that clicks tool-call output and focuses the
thread title editor while zoomed (both previously closed Zen mode), and
a dock-level test asserting the activation handle receives focus on
panel activation while the panel root reports containment.

Release Notes:

- Fixed zoomed panels (e.g. the agent panel in Zen mode) closing
unexpectedly when focus moved to elements inside the panel, such as tool
call output or the thread title editor.

This PR converts the collab panel list from a GPUI list into a uniform
list, which was a requirement for the indent guides to be displayed. I
have been wanting to add that to the channels list for a while, and
finally carved out some time. Ended up adding some more tweaks here and
there as overall improvements (e.g., using a lock icon for private
icons) and to make the indent guide fully work design-wise given we have
the chevron buttons rendering on top of them.

Here's how it looks:

Add a bunch of stray design refinement throughout (#60937)
This PR is a collection of grab bag UI design refinements across the
entire app. Most of them are minor icon fixes/standardizations, spacing,
and sizing tweaks.

The one change that ended up getting a bit bigger than I initially
anticipated is the debugger panel tabs improvements; added a bunch of
tweaks there to make it look slicker. A relevant change is a small
one-line change to the GPUI div element where it wouldn't add drag-over
styles to elements that aren't initially a hitbox target. Given I wanted
to pull off the drop indicator you see on the video below, this turned
out to be needed:

The recent "pickers with previews" overhaul left the picker
sizing/presentation API spread across several overlapping knobs that
every call site had to set correctly — and many didn't, causing pickers
across the app to render at the wrong width, lose their container, or
stop dismissing. This PR consolidates that surface into a small,
hard-to-misuse API and makes correct sizing the default.

Net effect: a plain `Picker::uniform_list(delegate, …)` now renders
correctly out of the box (standard width, standard max-height, shrinks
to fit, dismisses properly), and the ~35 call sites only specify what
genuinely differs.

## API changes

**Presentation** — three overlapping booleans (`is_modal`, `is_popover`,
`is_resizable`) collapsed into one enum, with resizability living inside
the only variant where it's meaningful:

```rust
enum Presentation {
    Modal { resizable: bool }, // own chrome, dismisses on blur, optionally resizable
    Popover,                   // own chrome, dismisses on blur, never resizable
    Embedded,                  // host container owns chrome + dismissal
}
```

- `modal(bool)` is **removed** in favor of explicit, self-documenting
builders:
  - *(default)* → `Modal` (resizable iff it has a preview)
  - `.popover()` → `Popover` (menu-attached surfaces)
  - `.embedded()` → `Embedded` (pickers nested in a larger modal/view)
- Dynamic callers use `.when(cond, Picker::embedded)` (added `impl
FluentBuilder for Picker`).

**Sizing** — preview-vs-not now drives everything; the manual padding
knob is gone:

| Before | After |
|---|---|
| `vertical_padding` field + `no_vertical_padding()` | removed — derived
from whether a preview is visible |
| `height(...)` (ambiguous: fixed vs max) | `max_height(...)` (plain
pickers shrink-to-fit, capped here) |
| `minimum_results_width(...)` | removed — a plain picker's min width
tracks its opening width; preview pickers use standard internal pane
mins |
| default size = 60% viewport | default = `DEFAULT_MODAL_WIDTH` (34rem)
× `DEFAULT_MODAL_MAX_HEIGHT` (24rem, max) |
| resize handles gated on `is_modal` | gated on `is_resizable` (new
`resizable(bool)` builder; auto-`true` for preview pickers) |

Call sites now only override the exceptions: narrow popover selectors
(`initial_width`), the taller outline view (`max_height`), and preview
pickers (constructed via `*_with_preview`).

## Behavior fixes

- **Wrong widths everywhere**: pickers were falling back to
60%-of-viewport because the original migration set
`minimum_results_width` but never `initial_width`. Fixed at the source
via the new defaults.
- **Popovers had no container and wouldn't dismiss**: `is_modal=false`
was suppressing both the elevated background *and* blur-dismiss. Split
out so popovers keep their chrome and dismiss on click-away/escape. This
fixed the agent-panel model/profile selectors, sidebar recent projects,
and the settings theme/font/icon/ollama pickers (which were incorrectly
using `modal(false)`).
- **Sidebar recent projects stretched to full height**: was missing the
shrink-to-fit behavior; now capped and content-sized like other
popovers.
- **Preview crash**: removed an over-strict `debug_assert!` that
panicked when previewing an empty file (`message == None && editor
empty` is valid).
- **Preview-aware default size**: pickers open at standard width with
the preview hidden, and expand to the larger "telescope" size when a
preview is shown. Fixes the text finder rendering super-wide by default,
and makes the file finder expand (rather than cram its results) when you
toggle the preview.

# Objective

- Fixes #59643.

## Problems

- Initial and minimum width was not migrated for all pickers.
- Some pickers had their width still determined by their wrapper.
- Some pickers where not modals but did not have modal false set.

## Solution
- Migrate the pickers we missed.

Add preview to pickers and make them resizable (#59604)
Overhauls Zed's pickers to make them resizable and give them a preview.

Closes #8279

### Background
The most requested Zed feature has the last year has been a [Telescope
like search box](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/8279)
[discussion](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/22581).
To understand why this is so popular we need to understand search can
serve thee goals:
- Navigation: fuzzy search is faster & easier then clicking in a file
tree
- Exploration: example, find a function by a word in its doc comment
- Collecting: example, getting a list of functions to change

The project search which shows results in a multibuffer is the perfect
way to operate on a list of items. Navigation and Exploration need a lot
of context around each result and offer fast navigation between them.
For both of these live searching is also critical.

The `telescope UI` is a picker with a preview to the right or below.
It's offered in various editors and IDE's most famously Neovim (through
the Telescope plugin), IntelliJ (natively), Helix (natively) and of
course VScode (plugins) and it's _many_ forks.

While having a UI like that for text search (our project search) is most
requested the UX pattern is applied widely, from `find_all_references`
to `bookmarks`. It enhances most pickers. Note that we have over 50
different picker modals!

The community has tried to build something like this for Zed:
- https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/44530
- https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/45307
- https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/46478
- https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/43790

These all became huge PR's that we could not merge for various reasons.
This is a really hard feature to integrate in Zed!
This PR got started as https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/46478
and supercedes that.

### Design
- Extend pickers to support an optional preview with minimal changes to
the pickers themselves.
- Make pickers resizable.
- Complement the existing search do not replace it by having both UI's
share the underlying search and allow freely switching between them.
- Allow extending the preview to things other then files.
- Maintain a clean design on all the pickers.

### Heigh level Implementation overview
- Adds an `Option<Preview>` to `Picker`
- Gives `PickerDelegate` a method to communicate a preview to the Picker
- Overhaul the way pickers are drawn to allow for resizing them.
Implemented on the `Shape` and `SizeBouds` structs.
- Adds a high level way to draw the `footer` and `editor` so we do not
need to change much to the pickers.
- Adds a new text finder Picker
- Adds a way to take a running search from project search and hand it to
the text finder Picker and the other way round
- Give the file finder a preview

### Next steps
A more detailed list and how to help out will be added to the tracking
issue for [Pickes with
previews](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/56037)
- Add more previews to more pickers!
- Enable selectioning multiple items in pickers and performing actions
on those
- Open selected items in a multibuffer
- Add a way to restore the last picker
- Make popovers (picker attached to some menu) resizable as well

# Objective

You know that feeling? You join the channel, crack a banger joke to
break the ice - yet, nobody laughs. Worse yet, you're swarmed with Slack
messages like "Piotr, we can't hear you". After a while you realize that
maybe it's for the best as the joke was not as good as you've initially
thought, but still: it's possible to get into a state where other
participants see you as muted. You don't hear anybody. Bummer.

That's what happened when we were hoping to pair with @dinocosta today.
I could not hear him. However, he had some logs to share which indicated
that while collab thought he's in the room with me, live-kit was
rejecting his token as it was revoked.

What clanker helped us figure out is that there's a race-y code path
where if you disconnect from a given room abruptly, collab can put you
in a limbo.
<details><summary>Clanker's idea of what's going on</summary>
<p>
Found the whole story. Here's what those logs mean and where the bug
surface is.

What's happening

The error at room.rs:1809 is the detach_and_log_err on the task spawned
by spawn_room_connection (crates/call/src/call_impl/room.rs:1754-1810).
So this is the initial livekit::Room::connect call failing — the LiveKit
SDK internally retried 3 times (that's the retrying... (1/3) lines), got
401 invalid token: revoked every time, gave up, and the error propagated
out of the ? at line 1762 and was logged-and-dropped.

The "revoked" comes from the collab server: leave_room_for_session
(crates/collab/src/rpc.rs:4091-4095) calls
live_kit.remove_participant(livekit_room,
session.user_id().to_string()), and LiveKit Cloud treats a removed
participant's token as revoked. Crucially, the LiveKit identity is just
the user id, not the connection id, while the DB-side
leave_room(connection_id) is per-connection. leave_room_for_session
fires from three places:

1. Explicit leave (rpc.rs:1666)
2. connection_lost, after RECONNECT_TIMEOUT expires (rpc.rs:1342)
3. Stale-connection cleanup when re-joining a channel (rpc.rs:3401)

So there's a race: an old connection's delayed cleanup (path 2) can fire
after the same user has rejoined the room on a new connection and been
issued a fresh token — and remove_participant(room, user_id)
kicks/revokes the user's current LiveKit participant, because the
identity is shared across connections. Quick restart of Zed, two
instances, or a reconnect that straddles the server's RECONNECT_TIMEOUT
all set this up.

Client-side consequences (this connects to your first question)

When that initial connect fails:

- this.live_kit stays None and this.diagnostics is never created — lines
1780-1791 only run on success. So in this failure mode CallDiagnostics
doesn't exist at all; the "stats never overridden" path I described
earlier isn't even reached.
- There is no retry and no token refresh. The failure is
detach_and_log_err'd and that's the end of it. The user stays in the
room at the collab level (status is still Online, they appear in the
channel), but with no audio and no way to recover short of leaving and
rejoining.
- Even a collab-level reconnect doesn't help: RejoinRoomResponse
(crates/proto/proto/call.proto:58) carries no live_kit_connection_info,
and rejoin() never calls spawn_room_connection — the LiveKit connection
is established exactly once, in Room::new, with the token from the
original join response.

So the user-visible symptom is: you're "in" the call, everyone sees you,
but you can't hear or be heard, and there's no error surfaced in the UI
— just this log line.

If you want to fix it, the two angles are server-side (make
leave_room_for_session skip the LiveKit removal when the user still has
a live connection in that room, or scope LiveKit identities
per-connection) and client-side (treat a failed spawn_room_connection as
fatal-but-recoverable: surface it, and have rejoin request fresh
connection info instead of silently carrying on). Happy to dig into
either if you want.

</p>
</details>

So tl;dr: our token was swapped out underneath us. One way to "fix" it
was to just go into another channel, but that was a bummer.

We have a good and reliable repro for it though: `kill -9 $ZED_PID`
followed by an attempt to rejoin the same channel within 30s would
consistently put us in that state.
Put another way: you panic and thus do not send a clean "leave room"
message to LK. if you rejoin the channel within 30s (after restarting),
LK will invalidate the very token you're attempting to use (as it cleans
up old tokens).

It may also happen without crashing, but that's the most reliable way to
repro the issue. Long story short your LK token gets tainted and you
can't share the audio anyhow.

## Solution

The fix is both client and server-side.

On client's side, we now retry the reconnection with a back-off and we
grab a fresh token off of reconnect attempts.
On server's side, we share the current token on room reconnect attempts.

We've also tweaked the call diagnostics to not use `unwrap_or_default`
so much: it was hard for us to tell that we're in a totally bogus state
and we've only reached that conclusion based on source code analysis. We
now show some generic "ok you're in a borked state pls report a bug"
message instead.

## Testing

We added tests that present the flacky scenario. We've also tried to
setup an infra to test the new behaviour, but sadly, local LK instance
seems to revoke tokens more leniently than the prod..
OTOH, we are quite confident that once new collab is deployed, we'll be
able to mince the new tokens and life is going to be good. Even when
running against the current prod instance we could see that our code
changed the behaviour for the better, as now we'll actually try to use a
new token if one is provided by collab. For that to happen we need to
redeploy though.

outline: Switch the outline search to use fuzzy_nucleo (#56477)
Nucleo tracking issue:
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/55872

This PR switches the outline picker to use `fuzzy_nucleo`.

with that I refactored the outline fuzzy picking to take advantage of
nucleo and its multi-atom query support. The previous implementation had
a lot going on specifically to work around the lack of multiple atoms,
basically taking matters into its own hands to accomplish the same goals
within the constraints it had.

Instead of having two lists of candidates that we have to run the query
against, we just run a single query and take advantage of the fact that
nucleo chooses the matches that are the furtherest towards the end of
the haystack to implement the same ancestor/leaf filtering. It retains
the leaf only matching on single atom queries.

Typed workspace errors (#57649)
This migrates the `Workspace::show_error` method to take a generic type
that implements `WorkspaceError` instead. That trait containts methods
to show a proper error message but most importantly means to help with
providing actions given certain errors.

The intention for this is rather easy: Whenever we show an error to the
user on the workspace level, that error should be
- actionable to a degree, even if that is only opening logs or whatnot
- show a message that is understandable to the user
- for not-too-critical errors, should hide after a certain delay and not
force the user to dismiss it using their mouse.

For now, there exist trait implementations for string error types and
anyhow errors. The long term goal here is to get rid of these altogether
and migrate everything to be strongly typed and especially actionable
instead.

Improve auto watch (#56126)
This PR fixes a few bugs, updates some UI, and improves testing of auto
watch. It'll likely be easier to review commit by commit:

- Swapped the Copy Channel Link and Auto Watch buttons so Auto Watch
appears in a better position. The UI is still not great, but I think
this tweak will improve it until someone on design can help.

   Before:

/>

- Disable Auto Watch when following another collaborator, with test
coverage for that behavior. We currently disable following when engaging
auto watch, and now we disable auto watch when following. They are
mutually exclusive and I think the feels correct.
- Refactored Auto Watch integration tests to use channels API instead of
room API.
- Improved test robustness by using assertions to identify
`SharedScreen` items by type and `peer_id` instead of tab title text.
- Fixed Auto Watch for returning channel participants by emitting
`RemoteVideoTracksChanged` when removing a participant with active video
tracks, with regression coverage for leave/rejoin/share.

Add ability to auto watch screens (#54839)
This PR adds a feature to automatically cycle through screen shares
during calls, designed for demo days or any call that has a lot of
screen share use.

This is a preliminary attempt behind a feature flag so we can dogfood
and iterate, or toss it out.

There's a new toggle next to the active channel name in the collab
panel: **Auto Watch Screens**.

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ae6eccec-7921-4c1f-8921-c8093631c705

This video demonstrates some cases:

Basic auto-watch
- Toggle on → automatically opens the next screen share that starts
- When the watched screen share ends, switches to the next available
share

Queuing
- Someone starts sharing while another share is active → doesn't
interrupt the current share
- When the current share ends, the queued share is picked up
automatically

Paused while sharing
- Auto-watch pauses when you start sharing your own screen, so other
shares don't pop up during your presentation
- When you stop sharing, auto-watch resumes and opens the next available
share

Multiple watchers
- Multiple people can have auto-watch enabled independently — they all
see the same transitions

Note that we don't manage the screenshares, livekit does, so this change
is entirely on the client. I think that's mostly fine, but there is a
chance 2 separate clients queues up a different person as the next
watched peer if they both engage screenshare around the same time,
depending on how it hits the clients, but it seems pretty edge case. We
can move the implementation to collab, but it will be more of a project,
and adding a secondary source alongside of livekit that could get out of
sync and have its own issues.

remove all bookmarks with `workspace: clear bookmarks`

# Implementation
This mirrors the implementation of breakpoints. The rendering of the
gutter was refactored to make place for bookmark icons and buttons:
- Code was extracted to a `Gutter` struct
- Runnables, breakpoints and bookmarks are now collected ahead of
layouting. Just before layouting we remove the items that collide and do
not have priority.
- The `phantom_breakpoint` is replaced by a `gutter_hover_button`

## In depth phantom breakpoint discussion:
This was phantom_breakpoint. It worked as follows:
 - A fake breakpoint was added to the list of breakpoints.
- While rendering the breakpoints it a breakpoint turned out to be fake
it would get a different description and look.
- The breakpoint list was edited run_indicators ("play buttons")
rendering to removes the fake breakpoint if it collided.

This would not scale to more functionality. Now we only render
breakpoints, bookmarks and run indicators. Then we render a button if
there is not breakpoint, bookmark or run indicator already present. We
can do so since the rendering of such "gutter indicators" has been
refactored into two phases:
 - collect the items.
 - render them if no higher priority item collides.

This is far easier and more readable which enabled me to easily take the
phantom_breakpoint system and use it for placing bookmarks as well :)

Note: this was previously merged but it needed a better squashed commit
message. For the actual PR see: 51404. This reverts commit
7e523a2d2b.

editor: Bookmarks MVP (#51404)
Closes #4526

Adds basic bookmark functionality to the editor, allowing users to mark
lines and later navigate between them.

### What's new

**Toggling bookmarks**
Users can toggle a bookmark on the current line(s) via the `editor:
toggle bookmark` action. A bookmark icon appears in the gutter for each
bookmarked line.

**Navigation**
Two new actions, `editor: go to next bookmark` and `editor: go to
previous bookmark`, navigate between bookmarks in the current buffer,
wrapping around at the ends of the buffer.

**Viewing all bookmarks**
`editor: view bookmarks` opens all bookmarks across the project in a
multibuffer, similar to how references and diagnostics are surfaced.

**Clearing bookmarks**
`workspace: clear bookmarks` removes all bookmarks in the current
project.

**Persistence**
Bookmarks are persisted to the workspace database and restored when the
workspace is reopened. They are stored as `(path, row)` pairs and
resolved back to text anchors. Out of range or unresolvable bookmarks
are skipped with a logged warning.

**Gutter rendering**
Bookmark icons are rendered in the gutter using the existing gutter
button layout system, consistent with breakpoints. They are suppressed
on lines that already show a breakpoint or phantom breakpoint indicator.
A new `gutter.bookmarks` setting (defaulting to `true`) controls their
visibility.

### What's left

- [x] Lazily load buffers that have bookmarks
- [x] Clean up test boilerplate
- [ ] Assign default keybindings
- [ ] Compare line of saved bookmarks with current buffer (gray out the
"stale" bookmarks)

### What's next (and nice to haves)
- [ ] Resilience against external edits
- [ ] Save column position with the bookmark
- [ ] Bookmarks attached to syntactic structures?
- [ ] Labeled bookmarks?

---

Release Notes:

- Added bookmarks: toggle bookmarks on lines with `editor: toggle
bookmark`, navigate with `editor: go to next bookmark` / `editor: go to
previous bookmark`, view all bookmarks with `editor: view bookmarks`,
and clear with `workspace: clear bookmarks`. Bookmarks are shown in the
gutter and persisted across sessions.

This PR fixes a mistake I pushed before of making the `ListItem`'s

Require multibuffer excerpts to be ordered and nonoverlapping (#52364)
TODO:
- [x] merge main
- [x] nonshrinking `set_excerpts_for_path`
- [x] Test-drive potential problem areas in the app
- [x] prepare cloud side
- [x] test collaboration
- [ ] docstrings
- [ ] ???

## Context

### Background

Currently, a multibuffer consists of an arbitrary list of
anchor-delimited excerpts from individual buffers. Excerpt ranges for a
fixed buffer are permitted to overlap, and can appear in any order in
the multibuffer, possibly separated by excerpts from other buffers.
However, in practice all code that constructs multibuffers does so using
the APIs defined in the `path_key` submodule of the `multi_buffer` crate
(`set_excerpts_for_path` etc.) If you only use these APIs, the resulting
multibuffer will maintain the following invariants:

- All excerpts for the same buffer appear contiguously in the
multibuffer
- Excerpts for the same buffer cannot overlap
- Excerpts for the same buffer appear in order
- The placement of the excerpts for a specific buffer in the multibuffer
are determined by the `PathKey` passed to `set_excerpts_for_path`. There
is exactly one `PathKey` per buffer in the multibuffer

### Purpose of this PR

This PR changes the multibuffer so that the invariants maintained by the
`path_key` APIs *always* hold. It's no longer possible to construct a
multibuffer with overlapping excerpts, etc. The APIs that permitted
this, like `insert_excerpts_with_ids_after`, have been removed in favor
of the `path_key` suite.

The main upshot of this is that given a `text::Anchor` and a
multibuffer, it's possible to efficiently figure out the unique excerpt
that includes that anchor, if any:

```
impl MultiBufferSnapshot {
    fn buffer_anchor_to_anchor(&self, anchor: text::Anchor) -> Option<multi_buffer::Anchor>;
}
```

And in the other direction, given a `multi_buffer::Anchor`, we can look
at its `text::Anchor` to locate the excerpt that contains it. That means
we don't need an `ExcerptId` to create or resolve
`multi_buffer::Anchor`, and in fact we can delete `ExcerptId` entirely,
so that excerpts no longer have any identity outside their
`Range<text::Anchor>`.

There are a large number of changes to `editor` and other downstream
crates as a result of removing `ExcerptId` and multibuffer APIs that
assumed it.

### Other changes

There are some other improvements that are not immediate consequences of
that big change, but helped make it smoother. Notably:

- The `buffer_id` field of `text::Anchor` is no longer optional.
`text::Anchor::{MIN, MAX}` have been removed in favor of
`min_for_buffer`, etc.
- `multi_buffer::Anchor` is now a three-variant enum (inlined slightly):

```
enum Anchor {
    Min,
    Excerpt {
        text_anchor: text::Anchor,
        path_key_index: PathKeyIndex,
        diff_base_anchor: Option<text::Anchor>,
    },
    Max,
}
```

That means it's no longer possible to unconditionally access the
`text_anchor` field, which is good because most of the places that were
doing that were buggy for min/max! Instead, we have a new API that
correctly resolves min/max to the start of the first excerpt or the end
of the last excerpt:

```
impl MultiBufferSnapshot {
    fn anchor_to_buffer_anchor(&self, anchor: multi_buffer::Anchor) -> Option<text::Anchor>;
}
```
- `MultiBufferExcerpt` has been removed in favor of a new
`map_excerpt_ranges` API directly on `MultiBufferSnapshot`.

Add the ability to reorder favorited collab channels (#52649)

Additionally, a new bug seems to be that if you reorder channels, focus
jumps to a favorite:

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/977e575a-055c-4f26-8183-2744ff7f8f56

I didn't feel comfortable adding just the functionality/fixes alone, so
I added a function to represent the state of the collab panel as a list
of strings, like how testing around the project panel is, and wrote a
few tests to ensure the behavior was pinned down.

collab_ui: Fix "lost session" visual bug in Collab Panel (#52486)
## Context

This PR fixes a UX issue ("visual bug") in the collaboration panel
documented in issue
[#51800](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/51800), where
users who had already signed in were still seeing the "Sign In" screen
after restarting the editor. As I mentioned in my response there ([Link
to comment
#4132366441](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/51800#issuecomment-4132366441)),
I have investigated the problem thoroughly and found that the session is
not actually lost.

What I discovered is that in Zed, only "staff" users automatically
connect to the collaboration servers when opening the editor (by design,
this logic is in `crates/client/src/client.rs` starting at line `962`).
Therefore, regular users keep their saved session and `Authenticated`
status, but since they don't automatically connect upon startup, the UI
didn't detect this correctly. It erroneously showed the GitHub account
request and the "Sign in to enable collaboration" text, giving the false
impression that the user had been logged out.

### Screenshots

Before (Bug)
<img width="1918" height="1031" alt="image"

/>

**Note:** This PR specifically addresses the visual issue in the
**Collab Panel**. Similar behaviors might exist in other parts of the
editor, but this change focuses on correcting the collaboration
interface.

This current PR:
1. Improves the `render_signed_out` function in
`crates/collab_ui/src/collab_panel.rs`.
2. Simplifies the connection check using
`self.client.user_id().is_some()`, which is more robust against volatile
network states and perfectly covers connection transitions.
3. During rendering, it detects existing credentials and shows the
correct message "Connect" / "Connecting...", replacing the GitHub icon
with the appropriate network icon (`SignalHigh`).

## How to Review

- Review the cleaner and simplified code in
`crates/collab_ui/src/collab_panel.rs:render_signed_out`.
- Verify that instead of verbose validations on the `Status` enum,
simply checking the user ID correctly captures any subsequent subtype,
properly differentiating between account authorization and a simple
network reconnection.
