- 1972 получил докторскую степень в Гамбургском университете, защитив диссертацию «Kosten- und kapazitätsorientierte Ersatzpolitik bei stochastisch ausfallenden Produktionsanlagen» \ Политика замены оборудования, ориентированная на затраты и мощности, для предприятий, выходящих из строя.
- 1974 получил степень [доктора философии](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August-Wilhelm_Scheer) в Гамбурге, защитив диссертацию по управлению проектами.
- 1975 основал Институт информационных систем (IWi) в Saarland University, который он возглавлял до 2005 года.
- 1980 Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer разработал Y-модель (логотип IDS Scheer)
