Discovering Docker inside Proxmox LXC guests previously required an
undocumented environment variable plus a hand-edited systemd unit,
which is how the surface kept shipping invisible. The opt-in is now a
persisted system setting with an admin-only toggle in Settings →
System → General, presented as its own "Docker in Proxmox LXCs" card
under the existing Docker/Podman updates card, with the requirements
(node agent with command execution) and data-collection bounds stated
inline.
The setting rides the admin-gated system settings endpoint
(RequireAdmin + settings:write, matching every other server-wide
toggle). Flipping it persists first, then applies to the runtime
config and fires a reconfigure hook so the router rebuilds the
monitor's Docker checker and inventory collector immediately — no
restart. PULSE_ENABLE_PROXMOX_GUEST_DOCKER_INVENTORY remains
authoritative: when set it locks the toggle (EnvironmentLockBadge in
the UI, HTTP 400 from the API), and an unrelated settings save can
never clobber the runtime value. The opt-in guardrail test now pins
the settings path, the env lock, and the persisted field.
Installer and node setup-guide callouts now point at the toggle first
with the environment variable as the locking override, and the docs,
their public mirrors, and the agent-lifecycle subsystem contract say
the same. New i18n strings shipped for en/de/es.
Verified live in mock mode: toggle off/on from the UI drives the
collector teardown/setup log lines, the value survives a server
restart, and all three touched surfaces render at desktop and mobile
widths (receipt in frontend-modern/browser-verification.json).
Container update detection only ever negotiated anonymous pull tokens, so
containers from registries that reject anonymous digest HEADs pinned a
permanent "authentication required" badge (#1706). The agent already runs
on the Docker host, so the checker now resolves the same credential store
docker pull uses - config.json auths entries, credsStore/credHelpers
credential helpers (docker-credential-<name> get), and Podman's auth.json -
and presents the stored login: Basic auth on Bearer token negotiation and
on the hardcoded Docker Hub / ghcr.io token endpoints, direct answers to
Basic challenges, and the refresh-token grant for identity-token logins
such as Azure ACR.
Credentials never leave the host: they are only presented to the registry
or its token endpoint, helper output stays out of reported check errors,
and lookups are cached in memory for five minutes. Helper names are
validated before exec, and a stale login falls back to the anonymous path
so checks that used to work keep working. Set
PULSE_DISABLE_REGISTRY_CREDENTIALS=true (--disable-registry-credentials)
to keep detection anonymous-only. The agent-lifecycle and security-privacy
subsystem contracts pin the host-local credential boundary.
Add availability_probe_targets and availability_probe_agents to the
telemetry ping - counts only, no agent names or addresses - with the
disclosure table updated in both privacy doc copies. Document the
feature in the availability-checks configuration guide and the
unified agent guide, including the ICMP capability caveat for
containerized probes.

The agent installer (scripts/install.sh) had no free-space preflight, so on
RAM-rooted appliances (QNAP QTS, Unraid) it ran all the way to the download
before dying with an unhelpful ENOSPC. Lift the server installer's disk
headroom check into the agent installer: verify temp and install-dir space
(including the shared-filesystem case) before downloading and in
--preflight-only mode, with a TMPDIR hint in the failure message.
The QNAP and Unraid watchdog loops also shell-appended agent stdout to
/var/log/pulse-agent.log with no rotation, which could fill the RAM root on
its own. Pass --log-file so the agent's rotating writer engages (QNAP: data
volume state dir; Unraid: /var/log/pulse-agent with size-capped rotation),
discard the now-duplicate stdout mirror, and keep the watchdogs' own messages
in a small self-trimming log.
Document the TMPDIR override for constrained roots in docs/UNIFIED_AGENT.md.

Fleets on networks numbered from nominally public IP space (issue
#1522: an AD estate on 192.20.0.0/16) cannot pass the agent's
local-network plaintext heuristic, and the only workaround was pointing
a .internal DNS alias at the server, which bypasses the same control
less visibly than a flag would. --allow-plaintext-http
(PULSE_AGENT_ALLOW_PLAINTEXT_HTTP) records process-wide consent once at
agent startup before any module validates a URL, covers every agent
transport including the websocket command channel, warns at startup
that the API token travels in cleartext, defaults closed, and is never
emitted by generated install commands or settable by the server.
- Split configuration table into "Installer flags" and "Agent-only flags"
so users know which flags work with `curl | bash` vs the binary directly
- Add missing --cacert and --env flags to installer docs
- Fix --disable-auto-update example (install script doesn't accept it;
use --env PULSE_DISABLE_AUTO_UPDATE=true instead)
- Add --disable-docker/kubernetes/proxmox and --proxmox-type to
install.sh show_help()
- Fix --enable-docker=false in CENTRALIZED_MANAGEMENT.md
All --enable-docker=false, --enable-kubernetes=false, --enable-proxmox=false
references replaced with --disable-docker, --disable-kubernetes, --disable-proxmox.
Extends the TrueNAS SCALE installer to also support TrueNAS CORE
(FreeBSD-based). The installer auto-detects the platform and configures
the appropriate service manager: systemd for SCALE, rc.d for CORE.
- Rename is_truenas_scale() to is_truenas() with FreeBSD detection
- Add FreeBSD rc.d service script generation with placeholder substitution
- Add FreeBSD bootstrap script for Init/Shutdown task persistence
- Split install/uninstall paths by OS throughout the TrueNAS block
- Add --cacert <path> flag for custom CA bundles (wired to curl only,
not passed to the agent binary)
- Fix --cacert incorrectly mapping to --insecure in exec args
- Fix missing closing quote on RCSCRIPT_LINK in FreeBSD bootstrap
- Fix unreachable echo after exit 0 in FreeBSD bootstrap

The agent was crashing with 'fatal error: concurrent map writes' when
handleCheckUpdatesCommand spawned a goroutine that called collectOnce
concurrently with the main collection loop. Both code paths access
a.prevContainerCPU without synchronization.
Added a.cpuMu mutex to protect all accesses to prevContainerCPU in:
- pruneStaleCPUSamples()
- collectContainer() delete operation
- calculateContainerCPUPercent()

Previously, the PULSE_DISK_EXCLUDE environment variable and --disk-exclude
flag only filtered mount points in the hostmetrics collector. This change
extends the exclusion to SMART data collection.
Changes:
- Updated smartctl.CollectLocal() to accept diskExclude patterns
- Added matchesDeviceExclude() for block device pattern matching
- Patterns support: exact match (sda), prefix (nvme*), contains (*cache*)
- Updated hostagent to pass DiskExclude to SMART collector
- Added comprehensive tests for pattern matching
- Updated documentation
